The Goetz Lab studies the biology of primary cilia: Tiny projections that function like antennae and allow cells to respond to signals from the surrounding environment. As a result of their important role in signaling, these organelles are required for the development and function of many tissues and organs throughout the body.
The labs primary goals are to understand the molecular pathways that control the assembly of these structures, and to investigate the roles of cilia in developmental signaling pathways and in human diseases, especially neurodegenerative conditions and cancer.
