- This Medical Center Hour features Salvadoran poet Javier Zamora, who entered the US from Central America via the southern border as an unaccompanied minor, age nine. In reading selections from his book Unaccompanied and in conversation with UVA pediatrician and poet Irène Mathieu, Mr. Zamora will reflect on the experience of migrating to this country as a child and on how writing poetry has helped him to come to terms with that difficult journey, the idea of home, and his sense of self. At a time when the perils of migration and border-crossing, especially for children, are in the headlines, how can this presentation help health professionals and health care organizations to care better for immigrants in our midst?
