"Recent Insights into (unexpected) functions of secretory phospholipase A2’s"
Secretory phospholipase A2’s (sPLA2’s) comprise a family of enzymes that are implicated in a variety of physiological and pathophysiological functions, including inflammation and atherosclerosis. A pharmacological inhibitor of Group IIA, Group V, and Group X sPLA2 is currently being studied in Phase III clinical trials in patients with acute coronary syndrome. The seminar will summarize findings from recent studies suggesting that Group X sPLA2 plays a previously unrecognized role in negatively regulating the activation of the liver X receptor (LXR).
