Nephrology Consultation

The UVa Kidney Center offers a complete range of dialysis options as well as transplant services, the latest diagnostic tests and procedures, and outpatient check-ups all in one convenient area.   With a special emphasis on preventive medicine, UVa is helping many people prevent or delay kidney failure and live healthier, more satisfying lives.    A multidisciplinary team leads the UVa Kidney Center including nephrologists, nurse practitioners, specialized nurses, nutritionists, technicians, and social workers.

Kidney Cancer
Cancer Care at UVa is based on the principle of team-based care . Each of our teams is comprised of cancer specialists, many of whom focus their careers on only one type of cancer. New or difficult cases are often discussed by the cancer
teams at weekly meetings, where members can collaborate and consult before deciding on the best path of treatment. Patients benefit greatly from this combined expertise because treatment is always guided by the most sophisticated knowledge available.

Kidney Transplant
Established in 1967, the UVa kidney transplant program is one of the busiest programs of its kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  We have worked with over 1,200 kidney recipients, many of whom have been high-risk candidates.  To learn more, click here.

Promising New Research
As part of a major academic medical center, our physicians have ongoing research projects to develop new knowledge relevant to the normal and diseased kidney.  Current research is exploring better treatments for:
