Clinical Services

Kidney Center
The UVa Kidney Center is a central location for diagnosing and treating patients who have kidney disease. The clinic specializes in general renal disease, chronic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, metabolic stone disorders and renal hypertension. Access to new drugs not available in the market is possible through the Nephrology Clinical Research Center. The Dialysis Center provides services that include outpatient hemodialysis, home dialysis training, peritoneal dialysis, and extracorporeal therapies.

Stone Disease
Complete metabolic evaluation and removal of stones using lithotripsy and intraoperative sonography.

Cryotherapy for Prostate and Kidney Cancer
Offers a minimally invasive surgical technique that destroys prostate or kidney tissue by freezing. Physicians in urology and radiology work together and are pioneers in treating kidney cancer without surgery, by using a needle to locate and freeze the cancer without extensive damage to surrounding tissue.

Kidney Transplantation Clinic
Kidney transplants are provided through the transplant service at the UVa Medical Center. Our kidney transplant nephrologists work closely with transplant surgeons to make this option available for patients who are interested.

Nocturnal Dialysis
One of the few nocturnal dialysis programs in the country, it is currently performing studies supported by NIH in this new methodology for renal replacement therapy.
