UVa Health System, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine Division seeks men and women ages 18-55 who have had a knee ligament reconstruction (anterior cruciate ligament) and have thigh muscle weakness for a research study.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of cold therapy to help regain thigh muscle strength.
The study involves screening and baseline testing visits each lasting about 1 hours. Eligible persons will be randomly assigned to receive 2 weeks of supervised thigh muscle exercise therapy, therapy with cold therapy (ice bags placed on the knee joint) or cold therapy alone. There are a total of 4 supervised exercise sessions each lasting about 1 hour. Follow-up visits (2) will each last about an hour and will occur following the 2 week intervention period.
Study-related sessions are provided free of charge.
Compensation for study completion is $100.00.
