This study is being conducted to look at how sleep apnea may affect the levels of a chemical in your blood called nitric oxide (NO). Sleep apnea is a condition where breathing is interrupted for a short time while you are sleeping. We are also looking at how levels of NO can affect a person's ability to produce insulin. Insulin is the chemical in your body that controls sugar levels in your blood. The study will also look at markers of inflammation in your blood. (Inflammation is a reaction that occurs in the body in response to injury or disease. Many health problems cause inflammation to occur in one area or throughout the body.)

Who can be in this study?

" Children Age 12-22 who are scheduled to have a sleep study for other health reasons at UVA
How much time will the study take?
" The study will take place during your sleep study and will not require any additional time or study visits.
What will happen during the study?
" You will come to the sleep laboratory in the Towers building for your scheduled sleep study.
" We will check your blood pressure.
" You will have two blood drawsone in the evening and one in the morning
" We will ask you to answer some questions about your health and your family history.
" You will have your planned sleep study
" You will not be allowed to eat or drink anything but water from when you go to bed until after the second blood draw
" The following morning after the blood draw, you will go home and your participation in this study will be ended.
Will I be paid for being in this study?
