Cochlear Implant Program

UVa's nationally-known Cochlear Implant Program provides an opportunity to restore hearing for those who have been unable to benefit from hearing aids.

Since 1984, the University of Virginia Cochlear Implant Program has been active in both clinical care and research in this field. Including support of parents and teachers can enhance treatment of deafness in young people. Our multifaceted program combines technical expertise and a uniquely strong interface with community school systems throughout Virginia and elsewhere

UVa is involved in high-level national clinical trials of bilateral cochlear implants. The program is headed by Dr. George Hashisaki.
