" This study's goal is to examine how dihydrotestosterone (a male hormone) helps control the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). (GnRH controls the secretion of hormones by the pituitary gland, and pituitary hormones control the production of female hormones from the ovaries.).

" We are recruiting women with and without PCOS (between 18 and 35 years old).

" This study involves four outpatient visits, and three 15-hour admissions to the GCRC.

" Participants will take finasteride for 35 days, and progesterone and estrogen for 7 days. Finasteride is not approved by the FDA for use in women; however, it is FDA-approved for treatment of prostate enlargement and male pattern hair loss in men. Progesterone and estrogen are naturally occurring female hormones.

" Compensation for this study is $300.
