Pravastatin Therapy in Patients with Active Crohn's Disease: A Pilot Study

The UVA Digestive Health Center of Excellence is seeking men and women ages 18 to 65 with active Crohn's disease to participate in a clinical trial using the medication pravastatin. Pravastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medicine commonly used to treat high cholesterol, but is currently not approved for the treatment of Crohn's disease. The purpose of the study is to see if Pravastatin is effective in treating active Crohn's disease. Patients that enroll in the study will take Pravastatin, one pill per day, for a total of 6 weeks. Eligible patients will have all study-related care and the study medication provided free of charge, and compensation for time and travel will be provided.
