Breast Cancer Team

As part of an academic medical center and as a National Cancer Institute Clinical Cancer Center, treatment of breast cancer patients is based on a team approach to care. That means that your care is guided by a team of physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. New cases, or difficult cases, are discussed each week at roundtable discussions with experts in Radiology, Surgery, Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Our team includes specialists in cancer education, genetics, outreach, prevention and long-term survivorship. To date, the Breast Center has been the recipient of over $11 million in breast cancer research grants.

Mission Statement:

The mission of The University of Virginia Breast Program is to provide the finest, most compassionate breast services through innovative research, and exceptional patient and family care, comfort, support and education.

The Breast Team is committed to playing a major role in the eradication of breast cancer as a major health concern for women.

The vision of the Breast Team is to be a premiere Comprehensive Breast Center recognized as one with efficient, state-of-the-art modalities/treatment, excellence in research and clinical trial studies and support services to include a focus on wellness, education and our patients’ social, psychological and spiritual well being.

Statement of Purpose:

The Breast Team is committed to addressing a woman’s concerns quickly and making her health care experience convenient and comfortable.  This commitment is evident in the new comprehensive Breast Care Center where diagnostic breast services come together in an elegantly designed environment.

The multidisciplinary team of breast specialists:  radiologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, endocrinologists, geneticists, nurses and support staff collaborate daily to provide women with coordinated and tailored care.
