“Snow Angels,” a film created by the Paul and Linda McCartney Foundation, will premiere in Charlottesville on October 10. The McCartney Foundation selects only one institution in each state to partner with. UVa Health System was selected as the exclusive partner in Virginia for the McCartney Foundation, which is showing the film in conjunction with national Breast Cancer Awareness month. Event details: Sunday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. The Jefferson Theater Charlottesville, Virginia Ticket cost: $20.00 Limited tickets available. Click here to order Snow Angels tickets.
The film tells the story of a year in the lives of three North Carolina women with breast cancer. This moving film details the path each woman takes through diagnosis, treatment and living with breast cancer. Ken Vrana, the film’s director, will also be at the event, as will physicians from UVa’s Breast Cancer team , who will be present to answer questions related to breast cancer from attendees after the screening.
Uva’s Cancer Center will receive 75 percent of the money collected from the film showing—which will go toward breast cancer research. Paul McCartney’s first wife, Linda, died of breast cancer in 1998, and the McCartney Foundation is active in promoting awareness of breast cancer and funding breast cancer research. The Garland Appeal, a charity dedicated to fighting breast cancer, which is part of the foundation, will receive the remaining 25 percent. Jennifer Harvey, M.D. , Director of the Division of Breast Imaging for UVa Health System, recommends that women begin receiving annual mammograms by age 40, to check for indications of breast cancer. The UVa mobile mammography van will be parked near the showing and will be open for touring and for information on breast cancer screening, and the American Cancer Society will also be present with information on local resources and programs. The public is invited to join with the Health System and the McCartney Foundation in supporting breast cancer awareness and research. Bring your sister, mother or friend to the showing—and sign up for a mammogram. Scholarships are available. |
