Professional Development
Facilitating professional development is one of the core missions of the Professional Nursing Staff Organization, according to Article II of the PNSO Bylaws: "The PNSO shall promote the ongoing development of members through education, mentorship, peer review and recognition opportunities."

PNSO Professional Development Committee
The Professional Development Committee promotes continued growth and excellence of nursing knowledge within the professional nursing staff of UVAHS in a variety of ways, including:
- Reviewing and revising New-Nurse Orientation and Skills Checklist content;
- Sponsoring annual PNSO Assemblies and Leadership Forums;
- Co-sponsoring events recognizing excellence in nursing, including annual Nursing Excellence Awards and the Week of the Nurse; and
- Facilitating scholarship opportunities for nursing-related continued education and professional growth activities, such as the Nurses' Professional Development Fund and the University of Virginia Medical Center Nursing Scholarship Program.
The Professional Development Committee sponsors several key subcommittees and initiatives, including Nurse Educational Coordinators (NEC's), the Nurse Recognition/Awards Committee, and Week of the Nurse planning workgroup.
