Pre Hospital Education

The Prehospital Program provides initial Advanced Life Support courses and continuing education for the rescue squads in Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madion, Nelson, and Orange counties and the Shenandoah National Park.
Two full time educators provide this training as well as serving as liasions between area hospitals, 19 fire departments, 3 EMS Councils, 9 Emergency Operation Centers and 30 EMS transport agencies. Thirty-five new advanced life support providers are trained yearly at the Medical Center.
There are a total of 120 continuing education classes taught each year at 12 locations providing over 3,800 contact hours of education.
