Once clinically improved and beyond the critical phase of their
illness (Day 7 - 10 and beyond), the goal for the PICU patient will be
resumption of growth. When this occurs, the RDA tables (Table 3) may once again be
used for determination of caloric and protein requirements. However,
given limited activity, 70 - 90% of the RDA may be appropriate for
children > age 3.
