LABORATORY MEDICINE UPDATE
July 6, 2001
IMPORTANT CHANGE IN REFERRAL LABORATORY RESULT REPORTING
Effective July 9, 2001, the Medical Laboratories will be utilizing a new referral laboratory, Quest Diagnostics, to perform tests that must be sent out. This transition will be transparent for the ordering of most laboratory tests, but may affect the retrieval of laboratory results.
This change is occurring just weeks prior to the time that the HS/CS laboratory result retrieval product within A2K3 (known as LCR) will be retired and replaced by a new product known as the Clinical Archive System (CAS). Because we do not have the resources to define the new reference laboratory tests in both systems, the new reference laboratory test results will not be available in the existing A2K3 system. A complete record of these tests will be available on printed laboratory reports, in MIS (limited display), or by calling the Medical Laboratory at 924-5227. A full display of all laboratory results will be available in the new Clinical Archive System scheduled for implementation in early August. This new system should include both the old reference lab results as well as a complete record of new reference lab results.
