Needle Aspiration Cytology

TEST INCLUDES: Specimen preparation and cytologic evaluation. Ancillary studies available on request.

DEPARTMENT: Cytology

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENT: Specimen smears prepared by technologist at the patient's side.

TESTING SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 08:30 - 16:30.  Turnaround time: Preliminary results, 1 hour; final report next working day.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Needle aspiration smears are prepared with the assistance of a cytotechnologist. Call the Cytology Laboratory (924-2770) for scheduling procedures.

REFERENCE INTERVAL: Normal cells.
