Employee of the Month Selection Form
Thank you for your participation as a committee member for the Employee of the Month selection process. Below are the nominations that were submit for the September 2012 Employee of the Month. Please review each nomination and select your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for Employee of the Month.
Candidate 1
We have nominated Candidate 1 because we have worked with him/her for several years in the unit. He/She is in a very challenging arena as many of his/her patients are living quite a distance from UVA. Resources are scarce for many of the patients we serve at our Hospital. Candidate 1 works tirelessly many days 10-12 hours to ensure the patients he/she serves have the highest standard of care and any available resources are obtained for these individuals. He/She works within an Interdisciplinary team & the whole Patient along with family is cared for.
To say the least the role he/she works in with his/her Nurse partner is most challenging and requires a high level of skill & knowledge to care for the brain tumor population. This arena of nursing care as with most patient care is high intensity & stress provoking. It can require a great amount of emotional effort to manage the units Patient & Family.
With all that said I would like to share what Candidate 1 does in addition to supporting & caring for his/her patients, families & team members? Candidate 1 will take any time whether it's a few minutes or a couple hours to contact his/her Nurse colleagues by pager, phone or just walk to their clinic and ask what he/she can do to help.
Candidate 1 truly has no limits on what he/she will do to help a colleague with catching up in their work. He/She will call Patients as necessary with whatever needed—refill scripts, fill out dreaded medical leave forms, request scheduling for testing, treatment. Follow up on previously scheduled testing, procedures. He/She will work to tirelessly for the needs of our Patients as he/she does for the patients in his/her practice. Seriously there is nothing he/she will not do to help out a colleague. Candidate 1 is the epitome of what makes a Team and what makes it work effectively.
The compassion, the caring, the giving and the willingness to support his/her Patients, his/her Team and his/her Co-workers are all qualities that make our Candidate 1 one of our favorite people. His/Her Patients & families praise his/her care and attentiveness. He/She has no boundaries with what team he/she will offer his/her assistance. His/Her positive spirit & attitude is such an asset to Unit & UVA as a whole.
His/Her Professionalism and acts of kindness is exemplary. He/She truly exemplifies what it means to truly care and want to make a difference in the lives of those he/she serves as well as his/her colleagues. We love to see Candidate 1 at any point he/she as he/she makes the day soooooo much better for so many. If we could clone him/her we could solve the world’s problems. Candidate 1 is truly phenomenal!!!
Candidate 2
Candidate 2 consistently sets high standards for himself/herself in striving to meet patient goals to work toward positive outcomes for our Departments patients. He/She champions motivational interviewing in a way that stimulates patients to utilize strategies that will involve clients and their families in promoting healthy choices for self-care management. Candidate 2 is able to do this in a caring and compassionate manner while always interacting in an upbeat and friendly style. He/She utilizes evidenced-based practices and shares this information in a timely manner with his/her colleagues. Candidate 2's devotion to his/her profession and his/her expertise is especially evident when he/she is observed interacting enthusiastically with his/her nutrition students and when he/she is teaching our Department Talk classes to patients that are inquiring about dialysis options. We are very fortunate to be able to have such a strong member as Candidate 2 to contribute to our interdisciplinary team.
Candidate 3
Candidate 3 is one of the nicest folks you will ever meet and truly one of the most dedicated to the University. No matter how busy his/her schedule or significant the demands upon his/her time, he/she is always the first to lend a hand, help a patient, or educate a colleague. Every day he/she gives 200% and he/she does this with a smile and absolute humility. He/She is a team player in the truest sense of the word.
I would say that we could use 100 more like Candidate 3 but the truth is, he/she is one of a kind.
