I. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Johy Betts.

II. Reports: Tuesday's inauguration ceremony will be broadcast at the John Paul Jones Arena. The Health Sciences Library will also project the coverage on a widescreen monitor in the lobby and also through a projector screen in one of their 1st floor classrooms.

III. Guest Speakers: Cynthia Rutherford, Wellness Coordinator and Laura Rugless, Jackie Daniel and Robbie Greenlee, Equal Opportunity Programs.

Cynthia Rutherford, Wellness Coordinator, announced the many dimensions within the Wellness Program here on grounds.  She discussed tools for fitness success such as the No Sweat Program and the Walking Program in addition to reduced membership fees to Gold's Gym, Curves, Jazzercise and UVa Intramural-Recreational Sports.  The new smoking cessation program was highlighted and the potential reimbursement incentives through attendance at Weight Watchers meetings were outlined as well.  For more information, please contact Cynthia Rutherford, car8z@virginia.edu or visit the Work/Life Wellness: Hoo's Fit website: www.hrs.virginia.edu/worklife.html    

Laura Rugless, Jackie Daniel and Robbie Greenlee with the Equal Opportunity Program (EOP) office presented their new employee orientation tool, "jEOPardy" After six months of employment, UVA employees will participate in the game in an effort to learn who the people of EOP are and what they do here at the University.  Laura and Jackie broke council into four teams and the game was played in the same format as Jeopardy.  It was a fun and exciting way to learn more about EOP! 

IV. New Business:  Computing Privilege Termination issues were addressed by HS/CS through a hand-out presented to council staff.  For a look at the issues and actions please click here. (hyperlink to .pdf of hand-out)

Council then composed a list of suggested guest speakers and topics:  Sara Collie- legislative liaison, Owen McKenzie- Fac/Emp Asst Program and Caroline Walters - records retention office.  The following topics are of interest to council:  Construction projects - 3D presentation, Budget situation - cut backs, hiring freezes, and the Restructuring update

V.  Old Business:  A brief discussion ensued regarding the smoking boundaries around the hospital entrances.  

VI.  Committee Reports:  None

VII. Adjournment:  Johy Betts adjourned the meeting.  The next meeting is scheduled on February 19, 2009 at 10:00 am.  The list of proposed guest speakers list will be prioritized and finalized.
