I. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Johy Betts.
Brad Holland, UVA Ombudsman, presented council members with a copy of the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs Statement and Policies manual. He also reminded council that employees should complete EOP's "Preventing and Addressing Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation" training every two years.
III. Guest Speaker: Maria Synan, Community Relations (Day of Caring)
Maria announced that Sally LeBeau (Patient and Guest Services) was unable to come to the meeting. We had asked that a representative from Patient and Guest Services visit with our council to address patient safety issues when entering/exiting the West Complex. Sally had prepared a statement for Maria to deliver to council on her behalf. Sally wanted council members to know that there are two greeters stationed outside Barringer Hall and there is one stationed at the booth on Hospital drive. There are about 200 patients entering and exiting through the West Complex each day vs. the 1500 + at the main entrance to UVa hospital. Presently, there have been no incidences with patients entering and exiting the West complex. Any further questions or comments should be directed to her office.
Maria Synan reported on the Day of Caring which will be held on September 17th this year. She announced that Health System teams should sign-up with Carrie Goforth by July 31. Teams should estimate the number of members and also mention that they are with the Health System. The academic side contact is Corinne Waterman. As a reminder, academic employees receive 16 hours service leave each year that can be used for the Day of Caring. Team leaders will meet in August at Newcomb Hall or the Albemarle County Office Building for an informational session. Hopefully, there will be online project selection capability. For more information, please visit the website, http://www.dayofcaring.info/.
IV. New Business: Council members brought up the increase cost of certain prescription medications as of July 1, 2008. If any one has found to have this problem it was advised at the meeting to contact Joanne Hayden, Uva Health Plan Obudsman to inquire about it and to address that you are affected by this situation. Johy asked council representatives to send her questions in advance for our meeting with Leonard Sandridge next month.
V. Old Business: None
VI. Committee Reports: None
VII. Adjournment: Johy Betts adjourned the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled on August 21, 2008 at 10:00am.
