I. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Johy Betts.
University Human Resources - Beth Reinhard reported on the upcoming UVA trips. Honolulu, Hawaii trip scheduled on September 21-28, 2008 (cost $1,299) (optional outer island extensions through October 1=$599) and Paris trip is scheduled on November 2-9, 2008 (cost $1,199) (optional extension to London through November 12= $699). A trip through Enrichment Voyages will take travelers to the Amazon. The excursion begins December 18 and returns January 8, 2009 cruising to the Bahamas, St. Barts, Trinidad, and the Dominican Republic to name a few. Contact Christine Papandrea 1-800-854-0195 for more information on this discounted trip (UVA employees and their families receive a 15% discount).
Service Awards are planned for May 21st at Alumni Hall for those employees with 10, 15 and 20 years of service. A banquet will be held on the lawn at Peabody Hall on June 4th for those with 25 to 55 years of service.
Restructuring Town Hall meeting to present the policy recommendations devised by the task forces is set for May 22nd in the Newcomb Hall Theater from 2:00 until 3:30 pm.
Provost Office -John Teahan reported on the personal mail policy. He summarized that it is acceptable to send through the UVA mailrooms personal mail that has already been stamped while it is not acceptable to have personal catalogs and such arrive through your university address. III. Guest Speaker: Aron Teel, Manager, Departmental Computing Support.
Aron discussed the transition of those departments who switched to Outlook when CorporateTime was retired. He also addressed the upcoming change in e-mail service for University students. Students will have Gmail or Windows Live for their email accounts that they can use while attending the University and after graduation. He also explained that IMAP could be used in Outlook to connect to the ITC Exchange server for those users needing both ITC and HSCS Exchange accounts. Classes will be offered to those who would like to learn more about utilizing public folders and shared calendars. V. Old Business: Council representatives, again, addressed the need for a University of Virginia Credit Union teller machine in the West Complex. Another option discussed was to ask Bank of America to waive their service fees at the teller in the West Café so that credit union folks could use it without a charge.
