III. Guest Speakers:
Sadie Simmons, Community Relations Office
Sadie announced the 2007 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (red envelope campaign) taking place from October 15th through November 30th. This year's theme is "Giving Hope." Employees are encouraged to visit the website, http://www.virginia.edu/cvc/ to learn more about how to give their tax-free donations to charities of their choice through the CVC.
Anne Broccoli, Assistant Director, Office of University Benefits
Anne was invited to speak regarding Open Enrollment (11/5-11/26). She mentioned that all employees would be receiving an email to let them know about open enrollment dates and changes to the health plan. A few of the changes are outlined here: Due to higher prescription drug costs, there will be a new tier of specialty medications, the generic 30 and 90 day costs remain unchanged. There is now a voluntary vision insurance benefit administered by Davis Vision, in addition to the discount vision plan through Eye Benefits. Dependent Care and Medical Care Flexible Spending Reimbursement program (also known as the FSA) is administered by a new vendor, Chard Snyder. Employees who have elected the 2008 flexible spending account will receive a debit card for expenses! Some qualified expenses include dependent care summer camp (not overnight). FSA expenses can be incurred through March 15, 2009 and you have until April 30, 2009 to file your claims. Anne asks that employees visit the Human Resources website to compare the two elective health plans. She also reminds representatives that this is a good time to drop ineligible participants and sign up for the tax deferred saving program.
