Health System Academic & Research Employee Council
Meeting Minutes
March 2006

Johy Betts called the meeting to order.

Joanne Hayden, UVa Health Plan Ombudsman and guest speaker today was invited to council to discuss a new opportunity in the Southern Health Wellbeing Self-Care and Wellness Program, called My ePHIT.  She outlined the online My ePHIT program for health plan members through a PowerPoint presentation in addition to a handout.  Members can access the program through their member logon at the Southern Health website either at work or at home.  You design your personalized plan and set your own goals through exercise, nutrition and lifestyle skills.  One of the initial program tools available is an individual health assessment that assists the member in specific improvement recommendations.  Exercise routines, nutrition plans and lifestyle skills to reduce stress are also available to program users.  There are online coaches to help you attain your goals.  Awards are given in the form of points that can be redeemed for gifts such as a Target gift card and fitness equipment.  All the information exchanged within the program is confidential and is not available to Southern Health.  Please call Joanne with questions or feedback, 4-4346.

Joanne also reminded members about Southern Health discounts towards memberships at New Fitness for Ladies, Charlottesville/Albemarle Sports Rehabilitation and Weight Watchers. UVA benefit eligible employees can have a $50 membership discount at the UVa Intramural Recreation facilities.

Council members discussed an area that employees could use for exercise such as the housestaff gym in the first floor of Barringer.

UVa HR benefit counselors will be available to help with UVA Benefit forms/information starting March 21 every Wednesday from 11-2 in the corridor for the University Hospital cafeteria.
