Health System Academic and Research Employee Council
Meeting minutes from
April 21, 2005
The Employee Council meeting went on as scheduled this 21st day of April.
The meeting was called to order by Helen Norfleet-Shiflett, council co-chair.
Becca White from Uva Parking and Transportation was the guest speaker.
Becca started the meeting by discussing how parking and transportation generates their own funds and therefore answered a question on many employees’ minds: Why do we have to pay to park at work? Parking and Transportation gets a majority of its funding from the monthly parking fees and parking tickets. The parking rates will go up to $13.00 for Red Permit holders and $60.00 for most garage permit holders. Becca says they hope to gain more parking spots with the new basketball arena being built and with the future parking garage for the Health System patients which will replace the current patient parking garage. An additional green route has been added and there are plans to add an additional hospital shuttle between the hours of 7:20am and 8:00am. All of this costs money and the only easy way to handle it is to raise parking rates. If you have any questions about parking and transportation you can e-mail Becca at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alan Cohn from Employee Relations announced that the annual service awards will be held May 24 for those with 10 plus years of service and June 15 for those celebrating 25 plus years. Invitations will be sent out to those employees affected.
