The Employee Council meeting went on as scheduled this 28th day of July.
The meeting was called to order by Helen Norfleet-Shiflett, council co-chair.
Mark Fletcher, Director of Intramural Recreational Sports at Uva was the guest speaker.
Mark started the meeting by discussing all of the recreational facilities that Uva offers from the Aquatic and Fitness Center to the outdoor recreational activities. The Aquatic and Fitness Center , Memorial Gym, North Grounds and Slaughter are the four gyms that are available at Uva to faculty, staff and students. University employees can join the facilities for $195 a year. The University recently received extra funding to give employees more of a discount to join. You can pay in full or receive payroll deduction over a six month period. The main office for Intramural Recreational Sports is located on the second floor of the Aquatic and Fitness Center . In addition, Jolene Bodily spoke about the No Sweat Program here at Uva. This is a program that is sponsored by Human Resources and is held at different places within the University in six sessions. It is a program that helps employees learn about making healthy changes in exercise and nutrition. The next session will be held this fall in McLeod Hall. Mailers about the upcoming session are being sent out in messenger mail.
In new business the Perks Card was discussed. This is a new discount card that is being given out to Uva employees that offers them discounts at various stores. The cards were mailed out to department business managers to distribute. The Employee Council Chairs and Co-Chairs will be attending a second retreat in September. If you have any questions or suggestions for them to take to the retreat please let Helen or Johy know.
