HEALTH SYSTEM ACADEMIC & RESEARCH
The Employee Council meeting went on as scheduled this 20th day of November.
The meeting was called to order by Helen Norfleet-Shiflett, council co-chair.
Anne Dawson, Linda Way-Smith and Jeff Overweg were the guest speakers. Anne, Linda and Jeff are from the Benefits Office. They gave a detailed overview of the two policies each employee had to choose from. First is the Point of Service (POS) plan which is currently what every employee has. The second plan is Direct Access, which allows you to go to any doctor you choose without a referral. The main difference between the two is with Direct Access there is more out of pocket expenses if you have to have certain procedures performed. The best way for someone to consider the plan is, 1) whether you have a family, 2) how much can you afford extra in health care and 3) do you want the freedom to go to any doctor of your choice. Everyone had to submit the Election form with their choice marked by Friday December 12, 2003. If you did not submit a form you are automatically enrolled in the Direct Access plan. You have the choice to change plans at the next open enrollment. In addition, Jeff Overweg went into detail about Flex Benefits, which are extra dollars you can set aside for certain things. Also, the Eckerd Company is the new provider for prescriptions, and you can find out more information on the Southern Health website, www.southernhealth.com . Corey Feist also spoke briefly to us to find out how we go about doing a policy search, most committee members said the keyword search, HR website and A-Z index are the main ways they go to locate what they are looking for on the Uva website.
In Old Business Lolita Bland handed out fliers of the families we will be helping out this holiday season. They will be collecting the items on Friday December 19, 2003, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the hospital loading dock. If you have any questions please contact Lolita at email@example.com
In New Business Helen and Johy went over what was discussed at the meeting with Leonard Sandridge, and this brought up the issue of safety, after there have been some traffic incidents around the university where individuals have been injured. It was suggested from one of our representatives that we find out what people’s concerns are for safety around the university and we draft a letter that we can send to Leonard Sandridge to present to City Council.
There were no committee reports.
In Old Business the ACAC corporate membership was brought up for questioning as to whether there were any new developments partnering with ACAC. Currently they are trying to work out a way for payroll deduction from monthly pay to take place. More information will come when more develops.
