Music Therapy

The Hospital Education Program (HEP) provides inpatients and outpatients at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital the opportunity to participate in a music therapy program.  Instructed by a board-certified music therapist, participants have experiences in active music making, music-assisted relaxation, and music and movement.  Interventions include song writing, dancing, instrument playing, and sing-alongs.  The goals of music therapy are to facilitate self-expression, encourage the development of choice-making skills, promote communication, motivate students toward an improved quality of life, and accelerate the healing process.

All HEP services are free to children and their families.  For additional information, contact (434) 924-2658.
