The authors discovered a 32% reduction in percutaneous injuries among the number of injuries reported in 1995 as compared to 1994 and 1993 for the hospitals participating in the EPINet data-sharing network.

Tereskerz PM. "CDC Publishes Revised Recommendations on Postexposure Prophylaxis for Helath Care Workers." AEP. 1995: 2 (4) 2-4. The CDC made provisional recommendations for chemoprophylaxis after occupational exposure to HIV.

"FDA Reports Spontaneous Combustion of Latex Gloves." AEP. 1995: 2 (4) 4. The FDA recommends safe storage conditions for latex gloves after reporting four fires in warehouses that seem to have been cause by latex gloves which combusted because of a chemical reaction.

Perry J. "Susan Harwood, 1945-1996: A Tribute." AEP. 1995: 2 (4) 5, 11. Presents a tribute to Susan Harwood, who died on April 15, 1996. Her major achievement in her career at the Occupational Safety and Health administrations (OSHA) was the enactment of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, which has improved the working conditions of many health care workers.

Descriptions of incidents when HCW’s eyes have been exposed to blood , even when protective eyewear is worn, suggest that these incidents occur when body fluids squirt under pressure, when the goggles slip, and when there is no protective cover for the eyes.
