Influenza Like Illness (ILI) Surveillance
As of March 4th...
· Current ILI incidence rate is 0.58% (n=3,610).
o 5 weeks straight of decreasing rates, and this rate is well below previous years at this time of the year.
o Rate now lower than what was recorded in the last week of Nov. 2012.
o Student Health and ED continue to account for more the majority of ILI cases, however, both sites are consistently reporting lower rates.
o Employee Health continues to fluctuate in their rate, but 2 of the last 3 weeks have seen big drops in their rate.
· Infection Control is reporting 15 cases of confirmed Flu.
o This is an increase from last week, but 10 of these cases were POC tests.
o The number of admissions due to flu has decreased from last week.
o Influenza A: Total of 4 cases.
§ All 4 cases were adults, and all 4 were vaccinated.
§ 3 required admission, all to acute care floors.
§ 1 was an employee.
o Influenza B: 1 adult case, admitted to MJH, and was vaccinated.
o 10 positive POC tests, 3 were adults and 7 were peds pts.
· VDH Weekly Influenza Report (data from week ending 2/23/2013).
o Activity level still considered widespread.
o All region and age rates have stabilized over the last 2 weeks.
§ Infant and Pediatric rates still the highest among age groups.
§ Central VA actually recorded a small drop in their rate.
§ Remember this data is a week behind ours.
