Aortic Aneurysm Study for Adults
A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled multiple dose study of subcutaneous ACZ885 for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm (Novartis Protocol CACZ885X2201)
An abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs when there is a weakening in the walls of the abdominal aorta (the major blood vessel in your abdomen which carries blood from the heart to other areas of the body). This condition sometimes requires surgery to correct the weak area. UVA Health System, Department of Surgery seeks adults ages 18 or older with abdominal aortic aneurysms for a research study. The purpose of the study is to see if an investigational drug called ACZ885 is safe and effective in reducing the growth rates in existing aneurysms. Participation in this study will require 14 study visits over a 14 month period. Each visit will last about 2-2.5 hours. Compensation is $100 after completion of each study visit where you receive the drug (12 visits) and $100 after completion of the last follow up visit for a maximum of $1300.
