Blunt Aortic Injury Study

Zenith TX2 Low Profile Endovascular Graft for Blunt Thoracic Aortic Injury Clinical Study

Angle John, F

UVA Health System, Department of Surgery seeks men and women ages 16 or older with blunt thoracic aortic injury (BTAI) for a research study. BTAI is when the thoracic aorta (the major blood vessel in your chest which carries blood from the heart to other parts of the body) has been injured due to traumatic force to the chest area. It is commonly caused by motor vehicle accidents or fall from heights. Aortic injury often requires surgery to correct the damaged part. The purpose of this study is to determine if the Zenith® TX2® Low Profile Endovascular Graft is safe and effective when used for BTAI. Participation requires 8 study visits over a 5 year period. Each visit will last about 2-2.5 hours. The device will be provided by the sponsor, but all other procedures and tests for this study are part of the routine evaluation for anyone receiving care at UVa for BYAI. No compensation will be provided. There may be up to a $50.00 reimbursement for mileage for all study required visits completed at UVA.
