Effect of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) on Pan-Arterial Function and Insulin Sensitivity in Humans (EJB045)

UVA Health System, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology is conducting a clinical research study to learn more about the effects of the hormone insulin and high fat meal on the blood vessels. Are you overweight and between the age of 18 and 60 years? You may be eligible if you are: • Non-smoker • No lactose intolerance • May have high blood pressure • May have higher than normal fasting blood sugar but NOT diabetes • May have elevated lipid profile • Otherwise healthy You also may be eligible for the control group if you are healthy, normal weight, no meds and between the age of18-60 years. Requirements: • One outpatient visit lasting approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours • 1 Outpatient Admission lasting approximately 10 hrs • These are during the week and admission will be at 7AM • All visits require blood draws Compensation: $250 paid upon completion of study For more information please call Linda Jahn at 434-924-1134 or email las6e@virginia.edu
