A Multicenter, Double-blind, Randomized, Placebo-controlled Study of Weight-Reduction and/or Low Sodium Diet plus Acetazolamide vs Diet plus Placebo in Subjects with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension with Mild Visual Loss

Pseudotumor Cerebri IRB-HSR # 14728: Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Treatment Trial (IIHTT) The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of: (a) the investigational drug Acetazolamide + a weight loss and a dietary counseling program versus (b) Placebo + a weight loss and dietary counseling program in restoring and protecting the vision of patients with mild vision loss secondary to pseudotumor cerebri. Key Eligibility Criteria: 1. Age 18  60 2. Diagnosis of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), also known as pseudotumor cerebri, for 6 weeks or less 3. Any previous treatment for IIH may not have been for more than 1 week 4.
