Our Program

The Malcolm W. Cole Child Care Center was established in 1984 to assist in recruiting and retaining a high caliber healthcare team for the University of Virginia Health System.  The center is fully licensed and serves children from six weeks to five years of age. Known for its caring staff and exciting programs, the Center is supported by well qualified child care professionals.

We have been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 2005 and have recently been awarded 4 stars in the Virginia Star Quality Initiative. We also work closely with and participate in educational studies conducted by the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education as well as Children, Youth and Family Services, Inc. In 2010, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the largest provider of employer-sponsored child care, began to manage the child care center. Information on the program or assistance in enrollment may be obtained by contacting Beth Root, Director at (434) 924-5140 or br9tp@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu.

Curriculum

The center follows the Bright Horizons’ World At Your Fingertips curriculum. The World curriculum is intended to provide the framework for excellence in early care and education and consists of developmentally based programs for each age group. This curriculum emerges from the children: teachers plan learning experiences based on their observations of the children’s interests, skills, and understandings – not based on a set plan of teacher-derived themes. With the help of parents, teachers guide the children’s experience through the development of projects and planning activities that correspond with their development and their interests.
