Chapel

The chapel is located off the main lobby of University Hospital, near the East Elevators. It is open 24 hours a day. Every Sunday there is a 10 a.m. interfaith worship service. Feel free to attend in informal dress such as a bathrobe and slippers.

Chaplains
(434) 924-2642 or ask your nurse

If you need counseling or someone to talk to, chaplain counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Chaplains can:

Offer support at times of hurt, crisis, or grief
Help with spiritual and emotional concerns about illness and hospitalization
Provide religious resources such as prayer, sacraments, and scriptures

Emergency Response Devices
(434) 924-5251

Patients who are elderly or disabled and live alone may feel more secure with a Medi-Mate, an emergency response device that can be activated at the touch of a button. Monitored 24 hours a day, a Medi-Mate can help subscribers maintain independence with security.

Foreign Language Interpreters
Spanish: (434) 982-1794
Other Languages: (434) 924-5251

The UVa Health System is committed to providing services to patients with limited English proficiency. Spanish interpreters are available weekdays. At night, on weekends, or at any other time for languages other than Spanish, the services of volunteer interpreters are coordinated by the Medical Center Language Bank. Advance notice of the need for an interpreter is very helpful, whenever possible, and will decrease wait time.

Hearing Impaired Services
(434) 924-8312 (Voice) or (434) 924-8357 (TDD)

A certified sign language interpreter is available for deaf or hard of hearing patients or visitors. TDD, closed-captioned televisions, and assistive listening devices are also available.

Patient Representatives
(434) 924-8315

If you are happy or unhappy with the hospital services or need assistance of any kind, contact Patient Representatives. They will bring your concerns, suggestions and questions to the immediate attention of those who can help. Patient Representatives can:

Handle your complaints, problems, or suggestions
Assist with questions about hospital services, policies, and procedures
Offer emotional support

Social Workers
(434) 924-2713

Social workers are available from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. seven days a week. Social workers can:

Help you prepare your move back to your home or community from the hospital
Help coordinate the services you will need after discharge to make living with a health problem easier, including:
  • Home health visits
  • Community-based support programs
  • Nursing home or rehab placement
  • Mental health services
Provide crisis intervention and counseling about illness, hospitalization, and disability
Assist with adult and child protection
Refer you to financial eligibility programs
