What is a Clinical Trial? You've probably heard the term somewhere before ... "this product was shown to be effective in clinical trials ...." A clinical trial or study is a scientifically-designed research project created to test the safety and effectiveness of new medicines or treatments for various illnesses. The information collected from these studies helps doctors find better ways to treat or prevent disease and is valuable to the FDA in determining whether or not a new drug should be made available to consumers in the United States. By volunteering to participate in one of these studies, you may not benefit directly. But you will receive high-quality medical care at no cost to you, as well as help provide information that may help identify new and better treatments for problems faced by women in midlife. Before joining any new study, you will be fully informed of any risks and benefits and have ample opportunity to have all your questions answered. If you are interested in joining one of our studies, please call (434) 243-4722 to discuss specific qualifications for a particular study. A time will be scheduled for you to meet with Dr. Pinkerton and the study coordinator to carefully review the consent form and to learn about the procedures performed in the study. We hope to hear from you soon! Search the Clinical Trials Database to learn about current studies. |
