Volunteer Services

Volunteering at UVa Medical Center means making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Our team of volunteers contributes an invaluable part of the care that we provide. A variety of activities are available to volunteers: direct contact with patients; serving behind the scenes; assisting families and visitors and providing staff support. While performing this valued service, you will make new friends, learn new skills, and enjoy other benefits along with personal satisfaction.

The Department of Volunteer Services experienced staff provides training and guidance to help our volunteers have a rewarding experience.  Please review the volunteer opportunities below.

Volunteer Opportunities for Adults
There are many opportunities for adult volunteers (aged 18 and above). With over 50 volunteer programs to choose from, including activities with the UVa Hospital Auxiliary, there is truly some-thing for everyone. Volunteers are needed for weekly shifts and as substitutes as well as for one-day special events. The staff of Volunteer Services will help you match your interests with the current needs of the Medical Center.

UVa Undergraduate Student Volunteers
This program is dedicated to giving UVa students experience in the hospital setting. Volunteer opportunities include Medical Services, Rehabilitation Services, Student Interpreter Service Initiative (SISI) and the Daycare Programs.  Interested students register with Madison House at the beginning of each academic year.  There are also volunteer opportunities for college students in the summer.

Junior Volunteers
This summer program provides youth ages 14-17 an opportunity to volunteer in a health care setting with an 8-week program. Placements include assisting in the Childcare Center, Surgical Supply, Pharmacy, Gift Shop, Flower Delivery and more. The application process begins in January. In February, interested teens and their parents are invited to an information session
to determine if this exciting opportunity is for you. The program has space for 70 volunteers. Normally many teens return from the previous summer.

We invite you to explore the wide range
of volunteer opportunities offered at UVa!
