About the Center
Mission
The Virginia Center for Diabetes Professional Education (VCDPE) has been a unique resource for providers of diabetes care in Virginia since 1987. The mission of the Center is to improve the quality and quantity of health care available to persons with diabetes in Virginia through the provision of professional education based on research and best practices, assistance in program planning and development, and provision of educational resources relating to diabetes. Located at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, its programs benefit health care providers throughout the Commonwealth. Its small multidisciplinary staff, representing endocrinology (Dr. Anthony L. McCall, M.D., Ph.D.), nutrition (Joyce Green-Pastors, M.S., R.D., C.D.E.), and psychology (J. Terry Saunders, Ph.D.), bring a variety of essential perspectives to the Center's educational programs and services.
- To improve the knowledge and diabetes care practices of physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and other health care providers.
- To improve the capabilities of health care systems to deliver high quality diabetes care.
- To develop and support organizational efforts in Virginia aimed at preventing diabetes and reducing its burden.
The Center is located in the Aurbach Medical Research Building, 450 Ray C. Hunt Drive, in the Fontaine Research Park.
