Quarterly programs begin at 6:00pm and will end approximately by 8:30pm and include a $5.00 fee for CVC of PCNA members and guests.

was presented by Angela Taylor, MD. on May 8 and was attend by 45 members and guests.

Erectile Dysfunction: Pointing Towards the Heart

was presented by Hemant Solomon, M.D. on February 21  and was attended by 35 members and guests.

Promoting Healthy Behaviors: Patient Education and CounselingTechniques for Cardiac Patients

was presented by Mala Cunningham, Ph.D. on November 8.

"ANA/ANCC Certification Review Class "

was sponsored by our chapter at UVA on August 11. We had 35 attendees came from all over Virginia. Including our chapter region, we had people from Tidewater, Northern Virginia, Roanoke and Fredricksburg. We even had a participant from Arizona, who could not find a class in the Western part of the country.

Evaluations showed a strong appreciation for the class. Everyone felt the review was comprehensive and very informative. We can't wait to see how many folks register for the ACCN Cardiac/Vascular certification exam and pass. Please let us know if you are one of those people!

"Current Treatment Therapies for Atrial Fibrillation"

was presented onMay 10 by by Ann Rossi, ACNP, MSN, RN, Adult Care Nurse Practitioner in the Electrohysiology Center of UVA Heart Center

"Heart Valve Disease "

was presented by by John M. Dent , M.D. Associate Professor of Internal Medicine , Director of Stress Testing Laboratory and Echocardiography Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Virginia Hospital on Feb 8.

Did you know the most common cause of mitral regurgitation is myxomatous degeneration? One of the main things to consider in a patient with a bicuspid aortic valve is thoracic aortic dissection. These are just two of the things we learned at the program given by Dr. Dent February 8. Held at the Northern Exposure restaurant, the first meeting of 2007 attracted over 30 attendees. Dinner was sponsored by Bristol Myers and Schering Plough. A door prize was won by Michael Waite. With February being Heart Month, we kick off the year with our biggest meeting.

"Peripheral Vascular Disease"

was presented by Nancy Harthun, MD , Department of Surgery, Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, University of Virginia Hospital on November 9. She discussed the management of the patient with PAD and how to perform a vascular assessment exam, identify risk factors associated with PAD, and describe current treatment modalities for PAD . Exhibits were provided by Sanofi Aventis Pharmaceuticals, UVA Afib Clinic, and CVC of PCNA Membership Committee.

"Congestive Heart Failure"

was pesented by Nita Reigle, MSN, RN,   ACNP-CS, for the August program meeting of the CVC of PCNA. Ms. Reigle is a nationally known speaker and journal author on cardiomyopathies and CHF, and she is a nurse coordinator in the UVA Heart Failure Clinic. We learned about current issues and treatment updates for patients with Heart Failure.

"PCNA Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Symposium:  Highlignts of the 12th Annual PCNA conference"

Attendees of the April national conference in Denver reported back to members in a series of presentations offering the latest information, programs, and resources available. The meeting was held in Camp Heart Auditorium at UVA Hospital, 4th floor at 6:30 pm.

“Women and Heart Disease”

was presented by Angela Taylor, MD, cardiologist at UVA Heart Center , on Thursday February 9 at 6:30 pm at Ivy Inn in Charlottesville as part of the CVC Chapter meeting. Dr. Taylor has special interest in women and heart disease, metabolic syndrome, and is a Cardiology Fellow at UVA Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville , Virginia.  The meeting was widely attended and well received.
