Local Preparedness Drill: Mass Immunization Clinic, October 2005 |
Volunteers from the UVAMRC, along with staff from the local Virginia Department of Health, and other volunteers from various local agencies, participated in a local emergency preparedness drill that took place on October 27, 2005. This drill, organized as part of a 5-state exercise and run by the local Virginia Department of Health, focused on the setting-up and running of a mass immunization clinic. The scenario centered around a state fair in eastern Tennessee where attendees were exposed to monkeypox virus, via a prairie dog vector. Volunteers from the UVAMRC were called upon to help staff the clinic, with MRC members serving various roles, such as "griage" staff, information officers, screening aides, vaccinators, medical consultants, mental health support, pharmacy staff, and various supervisory and leadership positions.
