Local Preparedness Drill: Airport Incident, September 2005

The UVAMRC participated in a local emergency preparedness drill that took place on the weekend of September 10 and 11, 2005.  This drill focused on two stages of response, with a plane crash due to an act of terrorism being part of the first stage, and the hospital response for the victims in the second stage.  Volunteers from the UVAMRC were called upon to help the UVA Hospital response on Sunday morning, with some members acting as victims, being able to walk through the decontamination tents and be triaged by Health System personnel; these volunteers as well as other members of the UVAMRC helped to evaluate the staff as well as the functioning of the hospital's response plan.
