Dr. Kantor serves as both the chairperson of the Professional Advisory Board and the Faculty Advisor to the Student Directors.  Dr. Kantor has been active in disaster planning and education in Virginia and was appointed Chair of the Disaster Mental Health Committee (2003) and Representative to the Governor’s Secure Virginia Initiative (2002) of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia. By invitation, he served on the American Association of Community Psychiatrists/Center for Mental Health Services work group to develop training guidelines for psychiatrists in disaster and bioterror.   He currently serves on a regional interagency disaster mental health task force and was asked to join the national disaster committee of the American Psychiatric Association.  Dr. Kantor’s clinical and teaching experience in emergency services dates back 28 years where he has served as a Red Cross Instructor, EMT/Paramedic and EMS Instructor.  Prior to medical school, as a Coast Guard Reserve officer, he held the position of both Medical Administrator and Medical Officer, directing Coast Guard Reserve Health Services for Groups Philadelphia and Cape May, responsible for the complete reserve medical program in New Jersey, Delaware and eastern Pennsylvania.  After graduating from physician assistant (PA-C) training, he worked and taught in a model Emergency Psychiatry service in Pennsylvania and joined the faculty at Hahnemann University, serving as course director for both Emergency Medicine and the Psychiatry Clerkship.  While a medical student, he directed the Homeless Clinics Project, a student run health care program serving the city of Philadelphia, earning recognition from President George W. Bush as a model program of outreach and community service (Point of Light Award #809).
