Description:

The UVAMRC ( University of Virginia Medical Reserve Corps www.uvamrc.org ) is actively recruiting for an Americorps member ( www.americorps.gov) opening for the current year- through October 2006.   This places an Americiorps member with UVAMRC through the Virginia Community Corps (www.vcc.vaservice.org).   Benefits include a stipend for living expenses, some uniform items and upon completion of the term, an educational stipend.

The member will work with the program leadership helping  to facilitate and amplify the operations of the local Medical Reserve Corps program in its mission to augment the regional disaster health capabilities of the combined Charlottesville-Albemarle County-UVA Emergency Operations District for all-hazards disaster response and the greater Thomas Jefferson Area Health District (includes the surrounding counties of Nelson, Louisa, Greene and Fluvanna Counties in the central Virginia region) for Public Health Emergencies.

In addition we hope to offer experience in volunteer management, disaster health planning and preparation, as well as the possibility of gaining experience toward a career in clinical medicine or other health professions for the selected individual.

The UVAMRC is unique among the medical reserve corps programs as it is administered by a council of Medical Students (and other health professions students) with input from a Professional Advisory Board made up of faculty, clinicians and representatives from the other disaster response groups.
