The Office of Telemedicine of the University of Virginia Health System is pleased to offer our connectivity to link soldiers deployed to Iraq with family members in the Commonwealth of Virginia through our telemedicine network.

We offer this service at no charge to our servicemen or servicewomen and their families in conjunction with the Freedom Calls Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that has deployed state-of-the art technologies to facilitate connections between soldiers and loved ones back home.

Currently, Freedom Calls has installed equipment and offers these services from the United States Military bases, Camp Cooke, in Taji north of Baghdad, Camp Fallujah, located in Fallujah and Al Asad We will update our site list as Freedom Calls offers additional sites from which to connect in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The coordination of all connections will be arranged through the University of Virginia Medical Center Office of Telemedicine. University of Virginia Telemedicine partner sites in the Commonwealth who have agreed to host soldiers and their families include:

  • The University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA
  • Norton Community Hospital, Norton, VA
  • Saltville Medical Center, Saltville, VA
  • The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, Abingdon, VA
  • Bath County Community Hospital, Hot Springs, VA
  • Tazewell Community Hospital, Tazewell, VA
  • Institute for Advanced Learning & Research, Danville, VA
