Mission StatementTo advance the health and well-being of adolescents with attention to those who care for and about them. We accomplish this through personalized primary care, community education and advocacy, and academic research and training. What is the Teen Health Center? A health care center for male and female adolescents. Our patient services include:
Special Programs! * "Breathing Space" Teens can be seen to discuss health problems as well as ways to talk to their parents about their health. This can include discussions on birth control, pregnancy, mental health, sexuality, and STIs. There is no charge for this visit. * Plan B The Teen Health Center offers free Plan B (emergency contraception), which should be used within 5 days of unprotected intercourse. Call for an immediate appointment. (Remember, Plan B is not as effective as regular birth control, and also does not protect against STIs.) * Sports Physicals for $25 The Teen Health Center offers $25 sports physicals, which are required to play on most school sports teams. We are located at the University of Virginia Health System on West Main Street across from the Corner in Charlottesville, Virginia. We opened in 1991 and provide personal on-going care to teen patients from ages 12 to 20. Our services are provided by a team of nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians with a specialty in adolescent medicine. A social worker and a nutritionist are also available for individual counseling.
