MISSION and VALUES The Surgical Service Center seeks to cultivate an atmosphere of trust and respect among its patients and staff, to openly communicate with those we interact with, and to organizationally support our employees. The Surgical Service Center is co mmitted to providing the highest quality care for surgical patients and to working directly with each patient's family and referring physician. To this end, we strive to continuously improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of servic es rendered. This is accomplished by systematically monitoring, evaluating, and improving the quality of our patient care, service, and staff performance and by fully supporting the mission and values of the University of Virginia Health System. SERVICES The Surgical Service Center provides comprehensive inter-disciplinary care to surgical patients ages 16 or greater. Burn and wound care is expertly provided in the DeCamp Burn and Wound Treatment Center. Surgical Services interfaces with all University of Virginia Clinical Departments, but specifically works with the following clinical departments:
In addition to diagnostic and consultative services, a broad array of inpatient and outpatient clinical services are available to critically and acutely ill patients. These include: general and subspecialty surgery, trauma surgery, transplant services, audiology and vestibular/balance services, speech pathology, dye laser therapy, lithotripsy and ultrasound services, cryosurgery, pain management services, enterostomal therapy, wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, surgical oncology services (including the Breast Clinic), and oral surgery services. Surgical patients are admitted to University Hospital inpatient units for surgical treatment of elective or traumatic needs including transplant surgeries. Upon discharge, patients move from the inpatient critical care/acute environment to rehabilitation, follow-up clinics, home care, or to home to continue their recovery.
