A randomized phase III study of sublobar resection versus sublobar resection plus brachytherapy in high risk patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), 3cm or smaller.
UVa Health System Department of Surgery seeks adults with lung cancer who are scheduled to have surgery for treatment of their condition for research study. The purpose of the study is to compare the results of removal of a small portion of the lung in surgery with removal of a small part of the lung in surgery plus local radiation therapy (brachytherapy) on you and your lung cancer.
The study involves 12 possible visits over 5 years. Follow up with the study will include CT scans of the chest and regular clinic appointments here at UVA.
Some risks of the study would include the risks associated with possible radiation from the brachytherapy in one group of the trial. There is also a risk that your cancer might return to your lung after your surgery
No compensation is provided for this study.
