Bone Marrow Drive for Uzo
In 2006, Uzoma Azuh, a student at Wayne State University School of Medicine, passed away from leukemia, after months of chemotherapy and unsuccessful attempts to find a bone marrow donor. Before his death, SNMA chapters around the country, including the University of Virginia SNMA, committed to joining forces with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to increase the number of registered donors, especially those of racial and ethnic minorities. The UVA SNMA chapter and national organization continue these efforts today through the execution of the TODER (Tissue and Organ Donor Education and Recruitment Program) community service protocol.
