December 2006

Welcome to the December 2006 issue of Round Table. I hope by now you have heard the outstanding news that the probationary status of our Graduate Medical Education program was lifted by the Institutional Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME.) We have received a three-year cycle until our next review. This is the maximum given for any institution that has had an adverse action.

Mock Medical School LCME Visit Goes Well; Final Report Expected Early in 2007
From Sunday, October 8, to Wednesday, October 11, a team from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education was at the school for an accreditation visit. Finally, we will study the emergency power supply for the building to determine how it can meet our future needs. All told, these renovations will cost more than $40 million...FULL STORY

Their research is key to the emerging field of regenerative medicine and stem cell biology, the prevention and treatment of birth defects, and the understanding of processes that can lead to cancer when proper tissue development goes awry...FULL STORY

Currently, the only options for observation patients are limited to being held in the emergency department or admitted to acute care beds. The short-stay/observation unit (SSOU) will relieve pressure on the Emergency Department, free-up acute care beds for sicker patients and provide physicians with another option for treating their patients...FULL STORY
