Welcome to the second edition of Round Table. I appreciate your comments on the first issue and, as you suggested, I will be increasing the number of issues, so that Round Table will be published at least 6 times per year
A few weeks ago many of you attended our annual General Faculty Meeting where many topics - from the composition of the class of 2010, to our faculty awards, to our goals for the coming year, - were discussed. For the complete presentation, click LINK.
In this issue we feature an update on our upcoming LCME accreditation visit, a review of our new School of Medicine magazine: UVA Innovation, information on our first Board of Visitors Scholar Steve Rich and great news about our capital campaign efforts.
Please do let me hear from you about what you read here and other issues you would like to see discussed by emailing to me at Garson@virginia.edu.

The good news is that we are already half way to our goal with more than $250 million in gifts and pledges already collected or committed. The Departments of Surgery, Dermatology, and Plastic Surgery, along with several individual School of Medicine faculty, have also made generous commitments toward the Medical Education Building and other initiatives. I am extremely pleased to tell you about UVA Innovation, a new publication which highlights advances in research, education and clinical care in the School of Medicine. You will receive an electronic copy and we are distributing printed copies across the country to other leaders in medical education. In addition, I am asking you to share the electronic version with your friends and colleagues to assist us in keeping them updated on the latest news from the School of Medicine. Feature stories from the first issue include an update on the Cell Migration Consortium grant (which was just renewed for five years), Gail Wertz's findings on the structure of some of the world's deadliest viruses, and some outstanding outcomes we have achieved in our Trauma Center. In short, this is a magazine about you and the phenomenal work you do every day. |
